Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City (BUH) was established pursuant to the Decision No. 174/2003/QD-TTg dated August 20, 2003 by the Prime Minister, on the separating from the Banking Academy. Since being recognized as a higher education institution under the State Bank of Vietnam in 1976, with the mission of providing human resources in banking and financce mainly for the southern region, so far the university has a history of 40 years of development.
In the development strategic plan for the period 2016-2020, and vision to 2030: The university determines the mission of the University as follows:
"Creating a modern environment, maintaining the Vietnam country’s identity so that learners can promote their potential, creativity and critical inquiry; training quality human resources for the society; promoting the creation and transfer of knowledge to address challenges of globalization and world integration; receiving, researching, developing and transfering advances in science and technology to the training activities of the University."
The University's strategic objective is to "develop Banking University of HCM City into a multidisciplinary university of business and management focusing Banking and Finance; to become a top university in the second group in the application-oriented tier in Vietnam higher education in 2020 and a top university in the first group of this tier and simultaneously to reaches regional standards by 2030.”
Being one of 11 disciplinary faculties, established under the State Bank’s Decision No. 330 / QD-NHNN dated February 26, 2014, the Faculty of Banking is assigned to be responsible for the banking programmes, one of two disciplines of Finance and Banking. The strategic orientation for scientific research:
- Faculty of Banking will become a well-known center of scientific research, the leading prestigious faculty in Vietnam in training high quality manpower in banking and finance; the programme is assessed on a par with the similar programmes in other higher education institutions in ASEAN countries.
- Encouraging lecturers to participate in scientific research and publish textbooks, which are considered as the most important tasks of lecturers and a basic criteria to evaluate lecturers’ performance.
- Promoting basic and application research, based on the strategic direction, the Faculty also cooperates with other departments in BUH, others university and research institutes… in research activities which will associate with practice, especially research on demands of enterprises, orders from local agencies.
- Expanding international relationship in order to exchange experiences and information of scientific research and textbook publishing.
- Regularly organizing scientific seminars as well as scientific conferences, at regional level and also international level. Each year, the Faculty Faculty of Banking will organize at least one scientific seminar at university level. Also, each of our departments will organize some science talk show and discussions
- Encouraging students to do scientific research with lecturers’ guidance. Associating undergraduate training and post-graduate training with scientific research through encouraging students to do scientific research by different manners.
